Day Twenty-Nine Niagara Falls Ontario, Canada

We were looking forward to seeing Niagara Falls pretty much since we left Manitoba. It’s a place with an aura of romance and why not? Waterfalls have a way of being romantic and bringing out the love and romance in anyone, and these are some of the largest and most impressive waterfalls in the world!

We arrived at at the falls in the early afternoon after filling our tummies with some really tasty Indian food from Passage to India Buffet which is located in Niagara Falls on 5546 Robinson Street. It was lucky we even made it there being that Catherine was extra frisky that day… must have been the nearby waterfalls!

Tyler is a huge fan of Indian food and this restaurant didn’t disappoint beyond there being no butter chicken! What Indian restaurant doesn’t have butter chicken? Besides that everything was really good – especially the naan bread and a potato dish. The prices were also very reasonable and should be a stop for you and your family on your trip to Niagara Falls.

We visited the falls on October 19th and the weather while not cold was not exactly warm. With the mist wafting from the falls be sure to bring appropriate attire. The best thing about being there at this time of year as we have mentioned on numerous other occasions is the lack of people. This is especially true for major tourist destinations such as Niagara Falls. Getting a good viewpoint from the viewing platforms was no big challenge, though in the summer you may have to wait your turn for good photo opportunities.

There is more to do in Niagara Falls than just viewing the American and Horseshoe falls from the various viewpoints. You can take a walk on platforms right up to the falls at American Falls and take boat trips into the mist at the foot of the falls as well. Families will also find other activities in the town center ranging from Marineland and botanical gardens to the Butterfly Conservatory and the Fallsview Casino.

There are many hotels and motels in the Niagara Falls area so finding one to fit your budget and needs should be fairly easy. Just be aware that you will probably need reservations for peak periods. If a budget traveler October and November present great opportunities to save money.

Tyler says of day 29 – Never having been to Niagara Falls I really wanted to see what all the fuss was about. I had taken Catherine on various hikes in the Greater Vancouver area to waterfalls but none of them measured up to the shear size and powerful fury that is Niagara Falls. October was a great time to visit as we were never pressed for finding a nice location to sit and view the falls. The Best Western hotel was well located and it was only a short walk to the falls and the rest of the city core.

Catherine says of day 29 – It is amazing how powerful the water can be as it falls over the cliff face. You can hear the roar and feel the mist on your face from a block away! I appreciated the beauty of the natural splendor that is Niagara Falls. Remember to pack your camera and extra batteries as you will be taking many photos. The views are perfect for a backdrop for wedding photos or other romantic getaways. I highly recommend this location as it is one of the most wonderful natural places in the world.
