Break In
Well today was to be the day I was going to climb to the top of Superstition mountain and get some great video footage of Mesa and Phoenix Arizona and the surrounding suburbs… it started out well as I easily found the trail heads and parking lots.
I parked my car at the Peralta trail head and walked back to the Lost Gold Mine trail to get some video footage of the trail I was about to hike. That all went fine and as I headed back towards my car I felt something was wrong and I was right. My passenger window was completely shattered and on the driver’s seat was a big rock. My back seat was folded down but the only thing missing, and really the only thing in the car worth stealing was about $1.50 in Canadian change. So someone broke my window for Canadian change which they will probably have a hard time using in any local store.
I drove to the nearest Ford dealership and found a local company to come out the next day to fix the broken window. The saving grace of Arizona is that unlike Vancouver I don’t have to tape plastic over the window to keep out the rain as it’s highly unlikely to rain overnight here. Sadly there is only one place in North America with a higher vehicle theft rate than Greater Vancouver and that’s the Phoenix area. While they didn’t take the entire car, I’m still a victim of some bonehead.
If the mobile glass company can fix my window early enough I will try the trail again, if not it will have to wait till Thursday. Though this time I think like them, I will skulk behind one of the rocks for a while to see if they attempt it again. I was only away from the car for about 15 minutes before the break in occurred.
